Barrett Misses Game-Winning 3; Cleveland 95 NY 93

RJ Barrett played a strong game with big late-game buckets, but missed a 3 with 5 seconds left that would have won it for the Knicks — while Darius Garland hit a big 3 on the baseline with 1:23 left that ended up being the game winner.

NY fell to 23-25 and the Cavaliers move up to 29-19 after this Monday night game in Cleveland.

1. Barrett Leads Knicks Again

RJ Barrett continued his strong, aggressive play — driving the paint continuously, absorbing contact, scoring, or passing out — the Knicks running their offense thru his drives.  He led the Knicks with 24 points on 9-16 shooting. The missed 3 with 5 seconds to go left him with 1-4 shooting from 3 — he needed one more bucket for a superlative evening.

One drawback in this game was missed free throws — Barrett was 5-10 from the line.

2. Randle Supportive

Julius Randle played a decent supportive game — 18 points on 6-17 shooting (2-7 from 3 — his shot still not falling) — 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

3. Grimes Continues to Excel

Quentin Grimes continued to excel in the backcourt with his aggressive defense and 3-point shooting. He had 12 points on 4-7 shooting (4-6 from 3) in 24 minutes — his playing time continuing to increase. Grimes was a +21.

4. Toppin Rising

Obi Toppin had another strong game: 13 points on 5-9 shooting and 3-4 from 3. He had a +20 in 15 minutes.

5. Robinson Out; Noel 13 Rebounds

Mitchell Robinson was out with a sprained ankle. Nelens Noel played 29 minutes at center and had 13 rebounds. Taj Gibson got 19 minutes as the backup center and played well.
