Thibodeau’s Thoughts on Current Knick Players as 2022-23 Season Ends

In the post game interview of the Knicks last game of the 2022-23 season, coach Tom Thibodeau had this to say about some of his Knicks players, when asked:

Jalen Brunson — “He’s one of the best players in the league. I think he shows that every night he goes out there. The Heat are a terrific defensive team. And to be able to do what he’s doing is a credit to him and the way he works, and his teammates and the way they work together. He’s young; he’s going to get better and better. He’s always had that ability, and he’s never satisfied. That’s what I respect about him. Great person. Great leader. And very determined. His ability to think on his feet, and his drive is special. I’m glad he’s with us.” (Note: Brunson is currently 26 yrs old.)

Julius Randle — “You’re not going to be great in every game. You can have an off game. You got to bounce back the next game. We take what we learn from it; work all summer to get better. Julius is still young! He’s going into his prime right now. We’re looking forward to what’s coming next.” (Note: Randle is currently 28 yrs old.)

Mitchell Robinson — “They kept bodies on Mitch — but I give Mitch a lot of credit — he had 11 rebounds, he had 5 offensive. He was getting that with bodies all over him; draped over him. Mitch had a number of good plays, blitzing the pick and roll. Obviously with a player like Jimmy Butler, there’s a lot you have to put into it; and there’s a lot of energy. All that he learned from the series is good for him. Overall I’m very pleased with the season Mitch had.” (Note: Robinson is currently 24 yrs old.)

Josh Hart — when was asked if NY would re-sign him as he becomes a free agent at the end of the year: “I love the guy so.. he is a free agent so he has a say in it obviously — but I would love to have him back; I’m sure Leon (Rose) will comment on that further.” ( Note: Hart is currently 27 yrs old.)

On Tom Thibodeau — “I’ve said this endlessly. It’s the best place to play. It’s the best city; the best arena. We have very, very knowledgeable fans. The whole atmosphere — there’s nothing like a big game at the Garden. We all know that. And we know there’s an appreciation for a team that plays hard, and plays together, and plays smart. If you make good plays, it’s recognized. We know how fortunate we are. Hopefully we make ’em proud. Sometimes we fall short, but we’ll bounce back.”

Miami coach Erik Spoelstra on Thibs and the Knicks: “They’re aggressive, they’re crafty, and they’re relentless. They keep going and so it has to be a team effort to stop them.”
